Don’t Let Few Grey Areas Stall Tax Reform Bills – Oyedele Begs Nigerians

By Matthew Eloyi

The Chairman of the Presidential Tax Reform Committee, Taiwo Oyedele, has called on Nigerians to prioritise the broader benefits of the proposed tax reform bills over a few contentious provisions.

Speaking during a Channels Television Townhall on Monday, Oyedele, whose committee developed the reform bills, highlighted their transformative potential.

“These bills have more than 200 transformative provisions to fix our country and set us on the right path to prosperity,” he stated.

“We should not allow one or two provisions that we can easily discuss and agree on to become the pain or the bottleneck.”

The proposed bills, sent to the National Assembly by President Bola Tinubu, have faced stiff opposition, especially from northern leaders who claim the reforms are detrimental to their region.

The National Economic Council (NEC), comprising the 36 state governors, has advised the President to withdraw the bills for wider consultations.

However, Tinubu has opted to let the legislative process take its course.

Oyedele urged Nigerians to focus on the bills’ potential to address critical national challenges, emphasising that collaborative dialogue could resolve any grey areas.
