10-Year-Old Abuse Survivor Chiziterem Ozuluigbo Discharged After Full Recovery
Ten-year-old Chiziterem Ozuluigbo, whose case drew nationwide attention and renewed concerns over child abuse in Nigeria, has been discharged from the hospital after making a full recovery.
Chiziterem was discharged on Saturday, 18 July 2026, and returned to his hometown of Umuofiagu-Ukehe, Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State, on Sunday.
The young boy’s case gained widespread public attention in June 2026 after a viral video showed him with severe burns and multiple injuries allegedly inflicted by his guardians in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The incident sparked nationwide condemnation and renewed calls for stronger enforcement of child protection laws and improved safeguards for vulnerable children across the country.
Following the incident, the Anambra State Government facilitated his admission to a medical facility, where he received specialised medical care.
According to medical caregivers, Chiziterem underwent comprehensive treatment for his burns and other physical injuries. He also received psychological therapy to help him recover from the emotional trauma associated with the alleged abuse.
Meanwhile, the Anambra State Police Command arraigned the child’s former guardians, Mr. Chukwudi Chukwuyere, 40, and Mrs. Chisom Chukwuyere, 30, over the alleged abuse.
The defendants have since been remanded in a correctional facility pending the determination of their case in court.
Chiziterem’s recovery marks a significant milestone in his journey toward healing and has been welcomed by child rights advocates, who continue to call for justice in the case and stronger protection for children against abuse and exploitation across Nigeria.
