2027: Mutfwang Pledges Historic Plateau Votes for Tinubu as City Boy Movement Inaugurated

The Plateau State chapter of the City Boy Movement, a support group for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has been inaugurated in Jos, with Governor Caleb Mutfwang pledging to mobilise what he described as the most historic votes ever recorded for a presidential candidate in the state.
Mutfwang made the pledge on Monday at the inauguration of the movement at Crispan Suites and Event Centre, Jos, where he declared his support for Tinubu’s bid for a second term in 2027.

The governor said he had no doubt that Tinubu remained the candidate best positioned, in his view, to continue leading the country, urging members of the movement to work with the APC and other political structures to secure support for the President.
He said, “My determination is that the President will have the most historic votes any President has ever had in the history of Plateau. Is it doable? Can we do it? Together we shall do it.”
The inauguration attracted members of the national leadership of the City Boy Movement, led by its Director-General and North-Central Coordinator, as well as political aspirants and other APC stakeholders in the state.
Among those present were Senators Simon Mwadkwon and Diket Plang, as well as Hon. Benni Lar, Yusuf Gagdi, Hon. Bagos, and other aspirants and party stakeholders.
Mutfwang, while welcoming the national leadership of the movement to Plateau, described the state as the home of peace and tourism, noting its natural environment and attractions.
He also clarified that the movement is called “City Boy” and not “City Boys,” explaining that the name was associated with progressive-minded Nigerians seeking opportunities and development.
Assistant Director, Governors and Compliance in the Office of the National Legal Adviser of the City Boy Movement, Barrister Olusegun Ogidanmbe, said the movement was established to mobilise support for Tinubu’s re-election and coordinate its activities across the country.
Ogidanmbe explained that the name “City Boy” represented people from different parts of the country moving towards cities in search of opportunities and a better life.
He said the inauguration was intended to formally give legitimacy to those appointed to coordinate the movement’s activities in Plateau State.
State Director of the City Boy Movement in Plateau, Hon. David Daser, said the organisation was focused on mobilising young people, informing them about government policies, and encouraging their participation in the political process.
Daser said the large turnout at the inauguration demonstrated, in his assessment, that the state could mobilise significant support for Tinubu in 2027.
He put the movement’s immediate target at one million votes for the President, while acknowledging that other APC structures and support groups would also be mobilising voters.
He cited federal projects and appointments involving Plateau people as some of the reasons he said supporters should back the Tinubu administration.
Among the projects he mentioned were the Mararaba-Jama’a-Ebonyi corridor, the Shendam-Babban Lamba road and the Akwanga-Maraba-Jama’a-Gombe road.
Daser also referred to the appointment of Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda as APC National Chairman and other appointments of Plateau indigenes into federal positions, as well as visits by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to the state.
Defending the decision to hold the political gathering despite concerns over insecurity in parts of Plateau, Daser said the event should not be interpreted as insensitivity to the plight of affected communities.
He said the gathering also provided an opportunity to discuss the security challenges facing the state and express solidarity with security agencies involved in efforts to combat terrorism.
On the administration’s performance, Mutfwang argued that despite the economic difficulties confronting Nigerians, the country had recorded improvements in several areas.
He said, “Individuals may have challenges, but collectively as a nation we have become better.”
The governor cited improvements in the availability of petroleum products, debt management, and efforts to address corruption, while also claiming that Plateau had made progress under his administration.
Mutfwang said his support for Tinubu dates back to June 6, 2023, when, according to him, he told the President that he would work with his administration.
“I have seen a President who loves this country and is determined to place Nigeria on the global map as an economic giant,” he said.
The governor urged members of the movement to return to their communities with what he described as a message of hope, saying Nigerians should remain patient with the government’s reform programme.
