24-Year-Old lady Arrested With Fabricated Pistol in Lagos Confesses Boyfriend Paid Her N13m to Transport Weapon Across Border

A 24-year-old woman, Halimat Jubril, has confessed that she was paid N13 million by her Togolese boyfriend, identified simply as Friday, to transport a fabricated Beretta pistol across the Nigeria–Benin Republic border before she was intercepted by security operatives.

Halimat made the confession at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja after operatives of the Command’s Tactical Team arrested her along the ECOWAS highway in Badagry.

According to an affidavit sworn to by the Police before the court, the suspect was apprehended on 20 September 2025, at about 11:30am, while riding on a motorcycle. Officers stopped her for a routine check, and a search of her handbag led to the discovery of a fabricated pistol concealed inside.

She was immediately arrested and taken into custody for interrogation.

During questioning, Halimat admitted that the weapon was handed to her by her boyfriend, Friday, who is based in Benin Republic. She further confessed that he gave her N13 million with the instruction to cross the border with the pistol and “settle” any security personnel who might stop her.

However, her attempt failed as she was caught before leaving Nigerian territory. Police efforts to arrest Friday have so far been unsuccessful, as he is reportedly operating from outside the country.

Investigators found Halimat culpable, and she has been charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for unlawful possession of a firearm—an offence that carries a lengthy prison term upon conviction.

During her arraignment, the court did not take her plea. The prosecutor, Supol Phillip Ademigbuji, filed a motion requesting that the case file be forwarded to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted the request and ordered the duplication of the case file. She also directed that Halimat be remanded in custody pending the DPP’s advice.
