Accord Declares Full Commencement of Campaigns in Osun, Urges Residents to Defend Progress on August 15

The Osun State Chapter of the Accord has formally declared the commencement of political campaigns ahead of the August 15, 2026 Governorship Election, calling on the people of Osun State to once again rally behind the Governor of the state, Senator Ademola Adeleke, in order to consolidate on what it described as the unprecedented development witnessed across the state since 2022.

In a statement issued on Wednesday and made available to our correspondent in Osogbo by the State Chairman of the party, Pastor Victor Babalola Akande, the Accord noted that the forthcoming election is no doubt, a defining moment for the people of Osun State, a moment to protect the progress achieved in the last three years and prevent a return to the dark era of maladministration that once held the state hostage.

Pastor Akande stated that the massive support Governor Adeleke continues to enjoy across towns, villages and communities in Osun State is a direct reflection of a government that has placed the welfare of the people at the centre of its policies and programmes.

According to Pastor Akande, “Since 2022, Osun State has moved from a period of stagnation and infrastructural decay to an era of visible and measurable development. Across the state today, roads are being constructed and rehabilitated, schools are being revived, healthcare facilities are being strengthened, and the dignity of workers and pensioners has been restored.”

He further noted that under Governor Adeleke’s leadership, Osun workers now enjoy a wage structure that compares favourably with what obtains in many financially stronger states, while pensioners and senior citizens, who were once abandoned, are today treated with the respect and dignity they deserve.

The Accord Chairman added that the administration’s intervention in healthcare delivery has also placed Osun among the best-performing states in Yoruba land, while urban renewal projects have transformed the outlook of major cities across the state.

“From Osogbo to Ilesa, from Ede to Ile-Ife, Ila, Iwo, ikire and across every federal constituency, the footprints of purposeful governance are clearly visible. Osun is no longer a state struggling under the weight of neglect; it is now a state confidently taking its rightful place among the most progressive states in the federation,” he said.

Pastor Akande, however, warned the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) against resorting to its well-known tactics of violence and crass misinformation, noting that the party is still struggling to recover from the resounding rejection it suffered at the hands of the people in 2022.

“The APC is still smarting from the humiliation it suffered when the people of Osun overwhelmingly rejected its years of misrule. Unfortunately, instead of learning from that defeat, some elements within the party are again attempting to introduce violence and desperation into our political environment.”

He stressed that the people of Osun are now far more politically conscious and will not allow those who once plunged the state into hardship to derail the progress currently being enjoyed.

“We call on the good people of Osun State to remain peaceful, vigilant and resolute. The achievements of Governor Ademola Adeleke are more than enough campaign message. His works speak loudly in every community and will continue to resonate across the state as we go through this campaign season.”

Pastor Akande therefore urged citizens, traditional institutions, community leaders, youth groups, women organizations and stakeholders across the state to close ranks around the Governor and defend the gains already made.

“This election is not merely another political exercise. It is a choice between progress and regression, between responsible governance and the era of neglect the people of Osun have already rejected. The people must therefore stand firm to ensure that the ongoing transformation of our dear state continues uninterrupted.”

The Accord reaffirmed its commitment to a peaceful, issue-based campaign while expressing confidence that the people of Osun will again speak loudly with their votes on August 15, 2026.
