Governor Ademola Adeleke on Wednesday visited Esa-Oke in Obokun Local Government Area to commiserate with the family of an Accord Party youth leader, Aderogba, who was killed in an incident linked to ongoing political tensions in the state.

The governor was received by members of the deceased’s family as well as leaders and supporters of the Accord Party from across the Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency.

During the visit, the deceased’s wife, Tolulope Aderogba, recounted the circumstances surrounding the incident, alleging that her husband was lured to a meeting before he was attacked. She claimed that the killing occurred in her presence and that of their son.

According to her, the deceased had allegedly been invited to meet a political figure but declined the invitation, insisting he would remain loyal to the Accord Party. She further alleged that armed men later arrived at the scene and attacked her husband, who subsequently died from injuries sustained during the assault.

Governor Adeleke expressed concern over what he described as increasing incidents of politically motivated violence in Osun State and called on security agencies to intensify efforts to bring perpetrators to justice.

The governor also criticized what he described as inadequate action by security authorities in addressing reported attacks and killings in the state, noting that he had forwarded reports and evidence of violent incidents to the office of the Inspector-General of Police.

He appealed to traditional rulers and community leaders to speak out against violence and work towards maintaining peace in their respective domains.

Adeleke urged political stakeholders across party lines to embrace peaceful and issue-based campaigns ahead of future elections, stressing that no political ambition should result in the loss of lives.

The governor assured the family of the deceased of the state government’s support, particularly for the children and immediate relatives left behind.

Describing the incident as “one killing too many,” he called on residents to remain calm and law-abiding while allowing security agencies to carry out investigations.

The incident has been reported to the police in Esa-Oke, while investigations are expected to continue.

Governor Adeleke was accompanied on the condolence visit by senior government officials and political associates.
