The 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day (AFCRD) Regimental Dinner Night, held on 14 January 2026, served as a dignified tribute to the rich heritage, shared values, and enduring unity of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

The historic event was hosted by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General OO Oluyede, and graced by the Honourable Minister of Defence (HMOD), General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), OFR, as Special Guest of Honour. Also in attendance were the Chief of the Air Staff, other Service Chiefs, the Chief of Defence Intelligence, and senior military leaders, reflecting the strong spirit of jointness, unity of command, and regimental pride within the Armed Forces.

In his welcome address, the CDS described the regimental dinner as one of the most cherished traditions of the Armed Forces, noting that it uniquely blends solemn remembrance with discipline, fellowship, and pride in the noble profession of arms. He paid tribute to the gallant officers and soldiers whose sacrifices laid the foundation of Nigeria’s freedom and continue to sustain peace and security across the nation. Despite evolving security challenges, he said Nigerian troops have remained resolute, demonstrating courage and professionalism across all theatres of operation while strengthening civil-military relations and earning public trust. He also acknowledged the unwavering support of military families, describing their quiet sacrifices as vital to operational success.

In his remarks, the Honourable Minister of Defence reaffirmed the resilience and professionalism of the Armed Forces, describing the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day as “the heartbeat of our military tradition, where pride in present achievements meets reverence for past sacrifices.” He commended the dedication of personnel serving across the country and assured them of the President and Commander-in-Chief’s firm commitment to improved welfare, operational support, and the continuous modernisation of the Armed Forces.

As the regimental dinner unfolded, the atmosphere of solemn remembrance and comradeship combined to renew shared resolve, strengthen bonds of unity, and inspire continued service to the nation with honour, professionalism, and selfless devotion.
