Africa Military Games Return: Abuja Gears Up to Host 44 Nations in Landmark of Military Sporting Event

The Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja is set to come alive as it welcomes the 2nd Africa Military Games, scheduled for November 5 to 17, 2024.
Marking a significant milestone, this event comes 24 years after Kenya hosted the inaugural African Military Games Association (AMGA) competition.
Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Abidemi Marquis, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, revealed the plans during a visit by military officials from across Africa on Monday.
AVM Marquis confirmed that athletes from all 44 African nations will participate, competing in 19 different sports. Both male and female military athletes will showcase their talents on the continent’s biggest military sporting stage.
In preparation, an inspection team toured key facilities in Abuja and its surrounding areas, ensuring the infrastructure is ready to accommodate the games.
Speaking on the significance of the event, Major General Abdullahi Maikano, President of the Organisation of Military Sports in Africa (OSMA), emphasised the unifying goal behind the games: “Our goal is to bring peace, economic and other good think to Africa through this event.”
“We are inspection facilities for final preparations and to evaluate and ensure the city is ready to host the continent’s military athletes.
“The Africa Military Games 2024 aim to foster unity, cooperation, and peace across Africa through the universal language of sportsmanship and military camaraderie.
This prestigious event is expected to be a powerful demonstration of the continent’s strength and commitment to peacebuilding initiatives.
