Ahead of Northern Governors’ Meeting, Stakeholders Urged to Pursue Bold Reforms, Intensify War Against Terrorists
As the 19 northern governors meet tomorrow under the banner of the Northern Governors’ Forum—alongside traditional rulers, security chiefs, and key stakeholders—to address the region’s worsening insecurity, a call has been made for decisive and innovative action.
Experts and concerned citizens emphasize that ending insecurity in northern Nigeria requires a strategic, modernised approach. They urge the governors to pursue bold reforms in economic and educational systems to meet current realities, while strengthening governance structures to reduce corruption and enhance integrity.
They further stress that the fight against terrorism must be prosecuted with renewed vigour and unwavering commitment. Enhanced intelligence gathering, thorough identification of perpetrators, sponsors, and collaborators, and strict accountability for all actors involved are key recommendations ahead of the meeting.
Stakeholders insist that government must urgently take the battle directly to terrorists’ camps, hideouts, and enclaves. With the protection of lives and property being the foremost duty of government, they urge leaders to prioritise swift, coordinated, and sustained action to restore peace across the northern region.
