Ahmed Musa Retires from International Football After 15 Years of Service
Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has officially announced his retirement from international football, bringing to a close a remarkable 15-year career representing Nigeria on the global stage. The 33-year-old forward currently plays for Kano Pillars in the Nigeria Premier League.

Musa’s journey began in Jos, Nigeria, where he was born on November 14, 1992. He developed his footballing skills in local academies before making his professional debut with JUTH F.C. in 2008. His talent quickly attracted international attention, leading to a move to Dutch side VVV-Venlo in 2010, where he showcased his speed and goal-scoring ability.
In 2012, Musa made a significant step in his career by joining Russian club CSKA Moscow, where he enjoyed multiple league titles and established himself as one of Nigeria’s most prolific forwards. He later had stints in the English Premier League with Leicester City and in Saudi Arabia with Al-Nassr, further adding to his international experience.
For the national team, Musa earned over 100 caps and scored more than 20 goals, representing Nigeria in three FIFA World Cups (2010, 2014, 2018) and helping the Super Eagles to win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations bronze medal and the 2014 African Nations Championship. His most memorable moment came at the 2014 World Cup, where he scored twice against Argentina in the group stage, marking Nigeria’s first goals against the South Americans at the tournament.
Known for his blistering pace, technical skill, and leadership on the field, Musa has been a symbol of Nigerian football for over a decade. His retirement from international duty marks the end of an era, though he continues to play domestically with Kano Pillars, where he inspires the next generation of Nigerian footballers.
In announcing his retirement, Musa thanked his teammates, coaches, and fans for their support over the years, emphasizing pride in representing his country and leaving a legacy for young Nigerian players to follow.
