Aishatu Binani Joins NDC Ahead of 2027 Elections
Former Adamawa State governorship candidate, Aishatu Binani, has formally joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress, marking a fresh political move ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Binani’s latest defection comes nine months after she exited the All Progressives Congress for the African Democratic Congress.
Speaking after receiving her membership card, the senator said her decision was driven by the party’s commitment to structured and policy-driven governance, as well as the influence of her political supporters.
“I believe many Nigerians are asking why I decided to join the NDC. The answer is quite simple. After carefully studying the party’s constitution, I saw a strong commitment to structured, policy-driven governance,” she said.
She noted that her political decisions are guided by prevailing realities and the interests of her supporters, stressing that politics is dynamic in nature.
According to Binani, the move to the NDC was largely initiated by her political base, which had already begun aligning with the party before her formal entry.
“About nine months ago, we collectively made the decision to join our former party. But over time, my supporters felt it was necessary to move on. They took the initiative and urged me to join the NDC,” she explained.
She added that Adamawa State currently has one of the highest numbers of registered members in the party, attributing the growth to grassroots mobilisation by her supporters.
The former lawmaker emphasised the critical role of her supporters in her political journey, describing them as the foundation of her achievements.
“No individual can succeed in politics alone. It is the supporters who drive the process, build the foundation, and sustain the journey,” she said.
Binani also expressed appreciation to the NDC leadership for welcoming her and her supporters, while calling for fairness, equity, transparency, and strong internal democracy within the party.
Her defection is expected to reshape political alignments in Adamawa State as preparations gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
