The Federal Ministry of Defence has pledged to fast-track the review of Nigeria’s defence policy to bolster national security.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Amb. Gabriel Aduda
Sted this during his familiarisation visit to the Defence Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.
He emphasised the importance of collaboration among the Armed forces to ensure a timely and effective policy review.
According to him, the review process offers an opportunity to align defence operations with modern public service standards.
Amb. Aduda also underscored the ministry dedication to improving the welfare of military personnel, particularly in addressing housing challenges.
He revealed ongoing discussions on adopting international best practices to provide better welfare packages for members of the armed forces.
“One area we are exploring is mortgage financing. Like the Federal Mortgage Bank, where civil servants can access up to N50 million in loans, we can establish a similar facility for the military,” Aduda stated.
“This will enable our officers to own homes during their service years and have a place to retire to.”
Representing the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Policy and Plans, AVM Sayo Olatunde, expressed gratitude for the visit and commended the permanent secretary’s proactive approach.
Amb. Aduda, accompanied by his directors, also toured the three military services as part of his familiarisation efforts, reaffirming his commitment to advancing the welfare and operational efficiency of Nigeria’s armed forces.
