Ambassador Enang Presents Credentials to German President, Reaffirms Nigeria-Germany Partnership
Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Federal Republic of Germany, Ambassador Ita Solomon Enang, OFR, has officially presented his Letters of Credence to German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, marking the formal commencement of his diplomatic mission in Berlin.
The credential presentation ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace in Berlin, with Ambassador Enang accompanied by his spouse, the Deputy Head of Mission, Mohammed Bashir Basha, and the Head of Chancery, Dr. Chioma Aisha Okorie-Haidara.
Following the ceremony, Ambassador Enang held bilateral talks with President Steinmeier, during which both leaders reaffirmed the longstanding cordial relations between Nigeria and Germany and expressed commitment to deepening cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The discussions focused on expanding bilateral collaboration in trade and investment, energy, agriculture, power infrastructure, technology, and industrial development. Particular attention was given to the Siemens Power Initiative, off-grid energy solutions, and opportunities for increased German investment in Nigeria’s automotive, manufacturing and gas utilisation sectors.
Both sides also explored a proposed Nigeria-Germany Migration Agreement, designed to create legal pathways for skilled Nigerian professionals in critical sectors such as healthcare, engineering, information technology and artificial intelligence to contribute to Germany’s workforce.
Regional peace and security, Nigeria’s leadership role within ECOWAS, and renewed engagement with the Sahel region also featured prominently during the meeting.
In addition, Nigeria and Germany reviewed ongoing cooperation on the implementation of the Green Tree Agreement, which followed the International Court of Justice ruling on the Nigeria-Cameroon boundary, as well as humanitarian concerns affecting communities in the Bakassi Peninsula.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the presentation of credentials and subsequent bilateral engagement as a significant step toward strengthening diplomatic, economic and strategic relations between Nigeria and Germany.
