APC Accuses Atiku, ADC of Disinformation Ahead of Kaduna Campaign Rally
The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of allegedly orchestrating a disinformation campaign aimed at discrediting the party’s presidential campaign rally in Kaduna on Saturday, October 24, 2026.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the council’s spokesperson, Dele Alake, alleged that the former vice president and the ADC were using propaganda, fake news, artificial intelligence-generated content, deepfake videos and counterfeit documents to mislead the public and undermine President Bola Tinubu, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and other APC leaders.
Alake claimed that the alleged campaign had been underway in the 24 hours preceding the rally, citing the circulation of a photograph showing a security vehicle on routine patrol near an APC campaign billboard in Kaduna metropolis.
According to him, the image was allegedly misrepresented to suggest that security personnel had been deployed to protect APC billboards. He further claimed that the story was published by a national newspaper and subsequently shared by Atiku on his official social media accounts.
The APC campaign council also alleged that another document circulating online was falsely presented as a letter from Governor Uba Sani to the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, concerning an alleged release of ₦2.3 trillion by the Kaduna State Government to host the rally.
Alake dismissed the claim as baseless, arguing that the amount was inconsistent with the state’s annual budgetary allocations.
He cited Kaduna State’s budgets of ₦458.271 billion for 2024, ₦790.439 billion for 2025 and ₦985.9 billion for 2026, maintaining that their combined total was still below ₦2.3 trillion.
The spokesperson further alleged that old, altered and deepfake videos could be circulated during the rally to create the impression that residents were opposed to the event.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and exercise caution when encountering information about the rally, particularly content shared on social media.
Alake also criticised Atiku and the ADC, questioning their political strategy and accusing them of attempting to discredit the APC through what he described as coordinated disinformation.
The statement called on Nigerians to reject what the council characterised as efforts to manipulate public opinion ahead of the rally.
The allegations against Atiku Abubakar and the ADC were made by the APC Presidential Campaign Council in its statement. The statement did not include a response from Atiku or the ADC to the accusations.
