Army Chief, Lieutenant General Lagbaja, Commend Team’s Courage and Resilience in Christmas Message
Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has conveyed heartfelt commendations to the troops of the Nigerian Army (NA) for their unwavering dedication and sacrifices in safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
The COAS expressed admiration for the troops’ steadfast commitment to the Nigerian State in challenging circumstances.
In a message personally signed by General
Lagbaja on Sunday, December 24, 2023, he congratulated the troops for their resilience throughout the year and acknowledged that over fifty thousand soldiers would be on duty during the festive season, away from their families. General Lagbaja emphasised that “these soldiers, deployed to challenging locations, were duty-bound while others celebrated, and are most often unaware of festivities, nor have the opportunity to celebrate even when they do. Neither do they know if these festivities were happening in their own homes.”
Looking ahead to the coming year, General Lagbaja outlined positive prospects, indicating that the NA expects to receive helicopters and other combat enablers to enhance national security. He disclosed ongoing welfare projects initiated by the Army Headquarters aimed at directly impacting the lives of soldiers and their families. The COAS stressed the paramount importance of troop well-being and pledged continuous efforts to provide necessary resources for effective duty execution.
Acknowledging challenges faced by the NA in fulfilling its constitutional obligations, General Lagbaja expressed confidence in the support from the Executive and Legislative Arms of Government to strengthen the army’s physical, morale, and conceptual components. He assured continued collaboration with Sister Services, the Nigeria Police Force, and other security agencies to ensure a peaceful, safe, and secure environment for the country’s socio-economic development.
