Army Chief Promises Modernisation, Commissions State-of-the-Art Soldiers’ Accommodation

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the Nigerian Army through investments in infrastructure, human resources, and technology.

Speaking at the commissioning of a newly constructed Soldiers’ Transit Accommodation at the Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps in Abalti Barracks, Surulere, Lagos, Oluyede, represented by the Corps Commander, Signals, Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Gbemiga Adesina, underscored his unwavering dedication to modernising the force.

“Our investments aim to position the Nigerian Army to meet the dynamic security challenges of the 21st century,” he said.

Highlighting the significance of the new facility, the COAS stated, “This impressive edifice we are commissioning today is an integral part of this broad modernisation agenda. Through these investments, we are fulfilling our responsibility to provide our troops with the best facilities and environment to carry out their missions successfully.”

Oluyede emphasised the importance of equipping troops with advanced tools and resources to address contemporary security challenges effectively. He urged soldiers to maintain the facilities diligently, adding, “Your commitment to excellence will ensure these advancements translate into greater operational effectiveness and readiness.”

The COAS praised the Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps for completing the project in a record six months and commended President Bola Tinubu for his steadfast support of the military.

He reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to tackling the country’s security challenges, stating, “We will continue to advance the vision of a Nigerian Army capable of defending the nation’s security interests and contributing meaningfully to regional and global peace efforts.”

The newly commissioned accommodation, featuring 29 fully furnished flats, is designed to ensure comfort and boost the morale of the beneficiaries.
