The Spanish Football Federation confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday, revealing that the 27-year-old midfielder is experiencing discomfort in his right knee.
“Martín Zubimendi has withdrawn from the Spanish national team camp due to discomfort in his right knee. To avoid any risk and to protect the player’s health, he has been removed from the squad,” the statement read. It also noted that Arsenal FC medical staff have been duly informed.
Zubimendi’s withdrawal adds to growing injury concerns for Arsenal during the international break. Key players including Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, and Noni Madueke have also pulled out of the England squad, while Piero Hincapié exited Ecuador’s camp early.
The latest developments raise concerns for Arsenal’s squad depth as the club prepares for a crucial run of fixtures across domestic and European competitions.
