Bagudu vows to eradicate walls hindering girl-child education

Kebbi State Governor, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, has called for teamwork with the National Union of Kebbi State Students (NUKESS) in eliminating barriers impending girl-child education in the state.
According to the governor barriers such as bullying, sexual harassment and other forms of intimidation have been slowing down the journey of a girl-child in pursuant of education.
Bagudu who spoke at the inauguration of the new Executives of the NUKESS on Sunday in Birnin Kebbi assured that his administration will work with the union in order to help students, especially females voice-out their challenges.
The governor also tasked the newly inaugurated executives of the student union to focus on establishing robust liaison between the students and government officials with to having a reliable ladder between the students and the state officials.
Bagudu stated that the union has a role in taken the education sector of the state and country to the desired pedestal. He pledged to stand up to expectation in providing the needed support for the union to work and diligently be active.
The newly sworn in President of NUKESS, comrade Kabiru Samaila Wara commended the state governor for successes recorded so far in the development of the education sector under his watch.
According to Wara, the sponsorship of tertiary students and the payment of WAEC and NECO examination fees for students in the state is highly commendable.
While assuring that the new exco would focus on core values of the union, Warra assured that a special priority would be given to the pursuit of academic excellence.
He said: “We will collaborate with different organizations and relevant authorities to achieve our goal. “We have also discussed during our meeting to come up with a number of Programs like debate, quiz, and inter-campus sports, radio and television programs to caution students on drug addiction, self-reliance.
Speaking earlier, the state commissioner for Higher Education, Professor Umar Muktar Bunza, while stressing the importance of education, stated that the Bagudu’s administration has over the years recorded laudable achievements in the educational sector.
Bunza explained that the state governor who has “ensure quality education” as one of the vision has been working to ensure that students in the state graduates and ready to compete globally.
Represented by Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hajiya Halima Boyi Dikko, the Commissioner disclosed that plans are underway for the state government to sponsorship of about 300 Kebbi Students to study in India, Turkey and Cyprus.
He further explained that the governor had approved a bilateral agreement with some foreign institutions for the training of students of the State in Medical Health Sciences, Para medicals and Engineering Courses.
