Bandits Kill Islamic Cleric Sheikh Yahaya Masussuka, Associate in Katsina
Suspected bandits have killed prominent Islamic cleric Sheikh Yahaya Masussuka and his associate in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The attack reportedly occurred around 9 p.m. on Monday at the entrance to the cleric’s residence in Dutsin-Ma town, where the assailants allegedly opened fire on the two men.
The victims were rushed to Dutsin-Ma Hospital for emergency medical treatment but were later confirmed dead.
The incident has thrown the community into mourning, particularly among the cleric’s followers and residents who knew him.
The Katsina State Police Command has confirmed the deaths. However, details surrounding the attack, including the identities of the gunmen and their motive, remained unclear as of the time of filing this report. Police had also yet to announce any arrests.
It was further gathered that Sheikh Masussuka had planned to organise a religious gathering in Katsina State later this week.
The late cleric had previously been involved in controversy over his religious teachings. On November 18, 2025, the Katsina State Government announced that he would be required to defend his teachings before a committee of Islamic scholars.
However, there is no confirmed link between the earlier controversy and the killing.
Authorities are yet to provide further details on the circumstances surrounding the attack as investigations continue.
