Barau Jibrin Emerges APC Candidate for Kano North Senatorial District Ahead of 2027 Elections
The Deputy President of the Senate, Barau I. Jibrin, has emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the Kano North Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The affirmation exercise was held on Monday at the APC party headquarters in Bichi Local Government Area of Kano State, with thousands of party members, party officials, and representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission in attendance.
According to a statement issued by Ismail Mudashir, the process was conducted openly and was overwhelmingly endorsed by party members.
At exactly 2:20 p.m., the Chairman of the APC Electoral Committee for the Kano North Senatorial Primary Election, Hon. Shehu Isa Direba, called for affirmation, and members responded with a resounding “Yes” in support of Barau Jibrin’s candidacy.
A parallel endorsement was also reportedly carried out by the APC National Assembly Primary Elections Committee for Kano State, chaired by Hon. Musa Yahaya, who similarly confirmed Barau as the party’s candidate for the forthcoming election.
An INEC monitoring official, Mr. Abdulrahman Haruna, expressed satisfaction with the peaceful and orderly conduct of the exercise.
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by his deputy, Murtala Sule Garo, also commended the process, describing it as smooth and well-organised.
In his acceptance remarks, Senator Barau expressed gratitude to party members and acknowledged the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, praising his administration’s policies and direction.
He urged continued unity within the party and called on supporters to rally behind the APC across all levels ahead of the general elections, emphasizing that such support would ensure continued development projects across federal, state, and local levels.
The statement concluded with a call for mass mobilisation of voters in support of the party in the forthcoming elections.
