Bauchi : Flood-Ravaged Busari Community Gets Chlorination Boost, Expert Explains Reasons

By Ahmed Ahmed

Following the devastating flood that ravaged Busari Community in Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State on August 8th, 2024, destroying wells and toilets, a team of experts led by Mrs. Rahab Jatau has embarked on a chlorination exercise to ensure the safety of the community’s water sources.

According to Mrs. Jatau, the chlorination exercise became necessary due to the contamination of wells and water sources by floodwaters, which poses a significant risk to the health of the community members.

“The flood has destroyed toilets and wells, leading to the contamination of water sources. If not treated, this can lead to the outbreak of waterborne diseases such as cholera, typhoid, and diarrhea,” Mrs. Jatau explained.

She added that the chlorination exercise is aimed at disinfecting the wells and water sources, making them safe for consumption and use by the community members.

Mrs. Jatau also emphasized the importance of proper hygiene practices, such as handwashing and proper sanitation, in preventing the spread of waterborne diseases.

The chlorination exercise is a collaborative effort between the Bauchi State Government, UNICEF, and other partners, aimed at ensuring the health and well-being of the affected community.

By chlorinating the wells and water sources, the team hopes to reduce the risk of waterborne diseases and promote good health and hygiene practices in the community.
