Bayelsa’s Governor, Douye Diri, has lauded the 16 Brigade of the Nigerian Army for their significant contributions to maintaining peace and security within the state.

Diri commended the Brigade’s efforts in curbing oil theft and ensuring the peaceful conduct of the November 11, 2023 gubernatorial election.

In a message delivered at the 2023 West African Social Activities (WASA) held in Elele, Diri acknowledged the crucial role played by the Brigade, alongside other military formations and security agencies, in facilitating a smooth electoral process.

He further attributed the decline in crude oil theft and other maritime illegalities to the professionalism and dedication of the Brigade’s personnel.

The Governor, represented by the State Government Secretary, Chief Gideon Ekeuwei, urged the troops to maintain their vigilance and intensify efforts in eradicating all forms of criminality and social ills within Bayelsa.

Diri also expressed his appreciation for the vibrant cultural display presented by the Army personnel and their families during the event.

He emphasized that their harmonious performance epitomized the nation’s potential to thrive amidst its diversity, united as one.

Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Sadisu Yakasai, explained the historical significance of WASA, dating back to the colonial era of the West African Frontier Force.

He described the event as a platform for strengthening bonds between troops, their families, and the community, marking the end of the year with festivity and camaraderie.

Yakasai reiterated the Brigade’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding oil facilities and promoting peaceful coexistence within Bayelsa.
