By Matthew Eloyi

The Chairman of Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State, Hon. (Amb.) James Melvin Ejeh, has condemned the killing of two indigenes of the local government, describing the attack as “heinous and barbaric.”

In a press statement issued on Tuesday, the council boss said the victims, Imanche Paul Moses of Ologba community and Umaru Gejeh of Enungba community, were ambushed on Monday, February 23, 2026, while carrying out fishing activities at a fadama farm near Obishu.

Ejeh said the incident represents a direct assault on the peace and security of residents, stressing that violence against innocent citizens would not be tolerated.

“This heinous and barbaric act is a direct assault on the peace, unity, and security of our people,” the chairman stated.

He commended security agencies for their swift response to the attack, noting that their intervention helped reduce casualties. He, however, urged them to intensify efforts to track down and prosecute those responsible.

According to the chairman, the local government is already working closely with security authorities to reinforce security presence in identified flashpoints across Agatu.

“Our administration remains resolute and unwavering in its commitment to protecting every resident of Agatu,” he said.

Ejeh also extended condolences to the bereaved families and the wider Agatu community, urging residents to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative with security agencies by providing useful information to aid ongoing investigations.

The council assured that decisive measures are being pursued to prevent further attacks and restore confidence in vulnerable communities.
