The Yobe State government has said that suspected Boko Haram terrorists have killed two people at an election collation centre of Kukareta along Damaturu-Maiduguri road.
The multiple attacks occurred on Sunday, while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was collating the results of the Yobe East Senatorial bye-elections.
Confirming the incident, in Damaturu, the State Security Adviser to Governor Mai Mala Buni, Maj-Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam (rtd) disclosed; “The residence of the District Head of Kukareta (name withheld) was torched, after killing two persons at the collation centre.”
He noted that the centre is about 20 kilometres east of Damaturu, the Yobe state capital.
Abdulsalam, however, assured both the electoral officials and residents to remain calm, as security agencies were reinforced to complete the collation of bye-election results at 4:00pm.
