Buni Charges Newly Elected Council Chairmen, Commissioners to Prioritise Public Interest
Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has charged 17 newly elected local government council chairmen, two commissioners and a permanent secretary to place the interests of the people above personal considerations.
Buni gave the charge in Damaturu during the swearing-in ceremony of the public officers, urging them to justify the mandate given to them by the electorate and the confidence reposed in them by the government.
The governor expressed confidence in their ability to deliver effective and efficient services, urging them to align their responsibilities with his administration’s reform agenda.
He said institutional reforms and investments by his administration had improved governance and service delivery across the state, particularly in the health sector.
Buni cited the successful hip replacement surgery performed at Yobe State University Teaching Hospital earlier this year and a major maxillofacial surgery carried out at Damaturu Specialist Hospital as evidence of progress in specialised healthcare.
He also disclosed that the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital had secured full accreditation from the West African College of Physicians for postgraduate residency training in Community Medicine.
Similarly, he said Damaturu Specialist Hospital had received approval from the West African College of Surgeons to train resident doctors in Obstetrics and Gynaecology after meeting the required conditions.
According to the governor, these achievements have attracted local and international recognition for the state, adding that similar progress had been recorded in other sectors.
“Alhamdulillah, Yobe State is truly moving. I salute the courage, resilience and commitment of our civil servants. You definitely make us proud,” Buni said.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving service delivery and the living conditions of residents, urging the newly sworn-in officials to demonstrate dedication, accountability and commitment to their duties.
The governor also reminded the council chairmen of their political obligations to the All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that the party had given them the platform to contest and win the recently concluded local government elections. He urged them to work towards securing victory for the party’s candidates in the forthcoming general elections.
Those sworn in included Dr Abubakar Kagu as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Dauda Alhaji Idi as Commissioner for Livestock Development, and Fatima Makintami as Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Justice.
