Former Chief of Army Staff, Ambassador Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusufu Buratai (Rtd), has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his third anniversary in office, praising what he described as bold economic reforms, improving security, and significant infrastructure development under the administration.

In a goodwill message titled “A Journey of Hope: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Three Years in Office and Beyond,” Buratai commended the President for taking difficult but necessary decisions aimed at repositioning the country for long-term growth and stability.

According to the former army chief, President Tinubu would be remembered for breaking longstanding barriers that had hindered Nigeria’s development, particularly through the removal of fuel subsidy and the implementation of foreign exchange reforms designed to stabilise the naira and unify exchange rates.

He noted that several of the administration’s policies were already yielding positive results, citing the global acceptance of Nigerian naira debit cards, the gradual revival of local refineries, access to student loans, and ongoing road and infrastructure projects across the country.

Buratai also highlighted developments in the Federal Capital Territory, where he said several major road projects that had remained unfinished for over 16 years had been completed under the current administration.

On the security front, the retired general said the country was witnessing improvements through renewed military offensives against insurgents, terrorists, and bandits. He particularly applauded recent joint operations involving Nigerian and United States security forces targeting Boko Haram and ISWAP elements in the North-East, as well as intensified counter-banditry operations in the North-West.

He praised the efforts of the Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police, and intelligence agencies, noting that the neutralisation of several notorious insurgent commanders demonstrated progress in the fight against insecurity.

While acknowledging that challenges remain, Buratai said nation-building requires difficult choices and expressed confidence that the administration’s policies would deliver greater benefits in the years ahead.

“Celebrating Mr. President does not mean ignoring the challenges,” he said. “Because you truly care, you have shown the courage to trade short-term comfort for long-term hope.”

The former army chief reaffirmed his support for the President and expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future, stating that the foundations for sustainable growth and national development were being laid.

He also prayed for continued wisdom, strength, courage, and good health for the President as he leads the country.

Buratai’s remarks come as President Tinubu marks three years in office amid ongoing debates over the impact of economic reforms, security challenges, and efforts to stimulate national development.
