In a dazzling display of artistic brilliance, Professor Rasaki Ojo Bakare, a distinguished choreographer and Commissioner for Arts and Culture in Ekiti state, captivated audiences at the Calabar Carnival 2023.

The Ekiti state native, hailed as the first professor of Choreography and Performance Aesthetics in Nigeria, worked magic that left spectators in awe, particularly as he orchestrated the mesmerising dance of participants, including individuals with physical challenges, throughout the twelve-kilometer carnival route.

The painstaking efforts and undeniable genius of Prof. Ojo Bakare earned him widespread praise from Carnival followers, competitors, and judges alike. His performance not only left the audience with a sense of wonder but also garnered admiration from fellow competitors and secured his position as the best in all aspects of the carnival.

The serving Commissioner for Arts and Culture in Ekiti state embarked on this remarkable journey to the Carnival Calabar with the fatherly blessings of His Excellency, Biodun Oyebanji, the Executive Governor of Ekiti state, affectionately known as the Fountain of Knowledge. The support from Governor Oyebanji undoubtedly played a pivotal role in ensuring the success and eventful nature of Prof. Ojo Bakare’s participation in the carnival.

Born on November 8, 1964, Prof. Rasaki Ojo Bakare has a distinguished academic and artistic career. As the former Dean of the Postgraduate School at Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, and the former Chief Executive Officer cum Artistic Director of Abuja Carnival, he has made significant contributions to the field of Theater Arts in Nigeria. His academic achievements include being the first Nigerian scholar to attain fellowships from the National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP), the Society of Nigeria Theatre Artistes, and the Dance Guild of Nigeria.

Prof. Ojo Bakare, with degrees from the University of Calabar and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, has showcased his commitment to the arts through numerous accolades, including over sixty medals from various competitions. His induction into international research groups further underscores his impact on the global stage.

The Calabar Carnival 2023 will undoubtedly be remembered for the enchanting performance and magical touch brought by Prof. Ojo Bakare, showcasing the richness of Nigeria’s cultural heritage and the immense talent within the nation.

This feat was not the first of its kind, as Dance Rasaki, as he is popularly known among professional colleagues, has been consistently consistent with such magical feats at NAFEST, Abuja Carnival and other National and international engagements where he has led his team to glory.
