Dr. Oludare Adeyemi, the Chief Executive Officer of La’Newton Cancer Clinic, Ugbor in Benin, says the clinic is set to commence free breast and prostate cancer screening on April 21.
The information is in a statement on Thursday in Benin.
Adeyemi stated that the free screening is for residents of the state, to run from April 21 – to April 23.
He added that “this is a free screening programme for breast and prostate cancer. There will be free consultations, clinical examinations, and tests.”
According to him, breast cancer happens when cells in the breast grow and divide in an uncontrolled way, creating a mass of tissue called a tumor, while the prostate is cancer in a man’s prostate, a small walnut-sized gland that produces seminal fluid.
He said that early diagnosis of cancer focused on detecting symptomatic patients as early as possible, so they have the chance for successful treatment.
“When cancer care is delayed or inaccessible, there is a lower chance of survival, greater problems associated with treatment and higher costs of care,’’ he said.
