Speaking at the inaugural lecture of the Joint Doctrine and Warfare Centre (JDWC) on Tuesday, the CDS stressed the Armed Forces’ commitment to self-reliance and stronger regional collaboration in tackling evolving security threats.

General Oluyede disclosed that the military is prioritizing the expansion of local defence production through the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) and other indigenous manufacturers. He also underscored the importance of effective border security and sustained cooperation with neighbouring countries in strengthening internal security.

He reiterated the need for enhanced synergy among the armed services, noting that isolated efforts by individual branches may not achieve optimal results. According to him, joint operations that leverage the unique strengths of the Army, Navy, and Air Force are essential for successful mission outcomes.

The CDS further revealed that recommendations from the lecture would be presented to the Federal Executive Council and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum to secure broader stakeholder support for implementation.

Also speaking at the event, the Minister of Defence, Christopher Gwabin Musa, described Nigeria’s security strategy as a “whole-of-society and whole-of-government approach,” stressing the importance of collaboration across all sectors. He noted that the JDWC, established in July 2025, serves as a hub for integrated military thinking and coordination.

Earlier, the Director General of the Centre, A.E. Edet, highlighted progress made since its establishment, pledging continued focus on innovation and technological advancement to enhance national security.

The inaugural lecture marks a significant milestone in strengthening joint military doctrine, improving coordination among security agencies, and promoting a comprehensive approach to addressing insecurity in Nigeria.

The event attracted a wide range of stakeholders, including serving and former military chiefs, senior officers, members of the diplomatic corps, and heads of security agencies.
