Chidimma Adetshina Faces Deportation Proceedings in South Africa

Chidimma Adetshina, the beauty queen who attracted international attention after withdrawing from the 2024 Miss South Africa 2024 competition amid a citizenship controversy, is facing possible deportation from South Africa.

According to reports, South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs alleges that Adetshina and her minor son were found to be residing in the country illegally following an operation earlier this month.

Authorities said she was arrested in the Summer Greens area of Cape Town and subsequently appeared before a court on June 9, 2026.

Although she was released on a warning after her court appearance, immigration proceedings against her remain ongoing.

The Department of Home Affairs has reportedly filed legal documents seeking an order for her detention and eventual deportation from South Africa.

An immigration officer told the court that Adetshina had previously come to the attention of authorities during an earlier investigation.

The case follows the high-profile controversy that surrounded Adetshina’s participation in the 2024 Miss South Africa pageant, where questions over her citizenship and eligibility dominated public debate and ultimately led to her withdrawal from the competition.

She is expected to return to court next month as legal proceedings over her immigration status continue. The court is expected to determine the next steps in the government’s application seeking her deportation.
