Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Christopher Musa affirmed his commitment to preserving peace in Taraba State and other parts of the North East.
General Musa stated this during a visit by Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas in Abuja on Monday.
“Security is always our top priority because, without it, progress is hindered. We want to reassure you that we will do everything necessary to ensure that Taraba State remains peaceful,” Gen. Musa stated.

He expressed his belief that Taraba State, with its abundant human and natural resources, will overcome ethnic conflicts and banditry and eventually prosper.
“Our challenges are related to equity, fairness, and justice. Once the people feel that we are there for them, they will give their best. With their best efforts, peace will prevail, and in peace, development will follow,” he emphasized.
Commending Governor Kefas on his election victory, the CDS highlighted the value of good governance in addressing problems.
“Everywhere in the world military solutions have limited success, good governance can resolve many issues. We are happy that you are carrying everyone along” he added.
Speaking, the Taraba State Governor called upon the Armed Forces of Nigeria to bolster their presence in border towns along the Nigeria-Cameroon border to protect citizens from criminal elements originating in Cameroon.
He pointed out that Cameroonian Ambazonian rebels have been causing terror in the border towns in Kashimbila Local Government Area of the state. Enhancing military presence is vital to address this issue.
The governor stressed that the people of the state aspire to live in peace and maintain positive relations with neighboring countries for fruitful business interactions.
Kefas highlighted the daily atrocities and killings committed by the rebels and urged increased troop presence to curtail their actions.
“We request your support to bolster troop presence so that we can contain their excesses and work toward improving the lives of our people,” he said.
Governor Kefas praised the military’s efforts in addressing the security challenges in the state and expressed confidence in the commitment and capability of the CDS and other service chiefs to restore peace to the country.
He also mentioned recent military operations to clear out bandits, particularly in ungoverned spaces within the state. The suspension of all mining activities in the state has produced desired results alongside the military’s presence.
“We are prepared to cooperate with the armed forces to ensure security in Taraba and throughout the northeastern region of Nigeria,” Governor Kefas concluded. “Securing our state for investors will undoubtedly lead to progress.”
