Chief of Defence Staff Reaffirms Commitment to National Security During Visit to Interior Ministry
Today, March 21, 2024, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, at the Interior Ministry Headquarters in Abuja.
During the visit, General Musa lauded the Minister for implementing significant changes to the passport acquisition process in Nigeria, hailing it as a remarkable achievement.
In his remarks, General Musa emphasised the importance of collaboration between the National Population Commission and the Ministry of Interior to accurately ascertain the true numbers of Nigerians for effective monitoring. He praised the Minister, describing him as “a true Nigerian who means well for the country.”
“I must appreciate and express my satisfaction with the visible improvements you have brought about the initiatives you have introduced since assuming officey,” The CDS said
Responding to the CDS’s comments, Dr. Tunji-Ojo hailed General Musa’s leadership style, stating, “General Musa’s leadership style is the reason the military is winning the war.” He underscored the need for lasting solutions to Nigeria’s porous borders and advocated for collaboration between the Nigeria Immigration Services and the Armed Forces of Nigeria to address security challenges effectively.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo also raised concerns about the influx of bomb-making materials disguised as fire service equipment, emphasising the importance of collaboration with the Border Community Development Agency, the Armed Forces of Nigeria, and the Ministry of Interior to secure the nation. He asserted, “We have the most dedicated Armed Forces in the world,” and called for enhanced collaboration in the training of special forces to address the stretched resources of the Armed Forces.
