COAS Expresses Commitment to Leverage Retired Finance Senior Officers’ Expertise
Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has affirmed the Nigerian Army’s intention to continually seek counsel from retired senior officers of the Nigerian Army Finance Corps (NAFC) even after their retirement. The aim is to harness their extensive experience and expertise in financial management and budgeting for the Nigerian Army (NA).

The COAS conveyed this commitment during a Goodwill message at the Regimental Dinner Night held in honor of former Chiefs of Army Accounts and Budget, along with other retired senior officers of the NAFC. The event took place at the Arakan Barracks in Apapa, Lagos, on Thursday, January 11, 2024.

In his address, General Lagbaja expressed gratitude to the retiring officers for their bravery, financial prudence, and adept investment management during their active service. He acknowledged their commendable service to the NA and the nation over three decades. The COAS noted that “the celebrated officers had demonstrated exceptional courage and valour, performing admirably in both their primary roles as finance officers and occasionally taking up arms to defend national interests.”
While commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his visionary leadership, the COAS highlighted the federal government’s stringent financial measures aimed at curbing impropriety and wastage for economic revival. He urged finance officers to provide sound advice to their commanders on financial best practices without undermining the service.
General Lagbaja explained the significance of the Regimental Dinner Night and Pulling Out parades, emphasising their role in expressing appreciation to veterans as they retire from service. He praised Major General Adetokunbo Fayemiwo, the Chief of Accounts and Budget (Army), for organising the memorable event celebrating the retired senior officers.
The COAS assured ongoing support for the NAFC and other Corps within the NA, aligning with his Command Philosophy aimed at transforming the Nigerian Army into a well-trained, equipped, and highly motivated force. He extended gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for continuous support, pledging the NA’s dedication to constitutional responsibilities and commitment to elevating Nigeria.
A significant highlight of the Regimental Dinner Night was a loyal toast raised in honour of the President, Commander in Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
