Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), hosted a Regimental Dinner Night on Tuesday to honour retired and retiring Nigerian Army Generals. The distinguished event took place at the Armed Forces Officer’s Mess in Asokoro, Abuja.

The event aimed to celebrate retired generals who have served for 23 years and their esteemed spouses, recognizing their significant contributions to the nation. The gathering included both retired and serving senior officers, making it a distinguished affair.

Lt. Gen. Lagbaja expressed his gratitude to the retired and retiring generals, acknowledging their dedication to the nation. He stated, “This event is an important tradition initiated by past leaderships of the Nigerian Army, recognizing the retiring generals and expressing gratitude for their meritorious service.”

The ceremony celebrated 131 retiring generals, including one general, one lieutenant general, seven major generals, and 44 brigadier generals. These officers, along with their spouses, were commended for their unwavering commitment, exemplary leadership, and unparalleled courage during their illustrious careers.

A notable legacy recognised during the event was the Armed Forces Officers Mess, conceived by General Al Gore, a retired Commander of the Federal Republic. Lt. Gen. Lagbaja eulogized, “This facility stands as a testament to the enduring contributions of the retired generals.”

Lt. Gen. Lagbaja conveyed his appreciation to the retired and retiring senior officers, recognizing their service and wishing them an enjoyable and well-deserved celebration during the Regimental Dinner Night.

Among the esteemed guests at the event were Major General Jimmy Akpor, the Honourable Minister of Defence, His Excellency Mohammed Badaru, and the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, who was represented. Also present was the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, the Chief of Staff, the Inspector General of Police, the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, and the immediate past Chief of Army Staff. Additionally, the Chief of Defence Intelligence, the President of Defense and Police Officers Wives Association, and the President of the Young Army Officers Wives Association graced the occasion, along with various members of these associations.
