COAS, Minister of Defense Commends General Chris Alli’s Lifetime of Service and Devotion

At his burial ceremony at the National Cemetery, Abuja, on Wednesday, 20 December 2023, the Nigerian nation and the Army (NA) bid a final farewell to the revered Major General Mohammed Chris Alli (rtd), celebrating his patriotism and dedication to building a peaceful Nigeria.
Late Major General Chris Alli (rtd) rendered invaluable service to the nation in various capacities within the Armed Forces of Nigeria, leaving behind enduring legacies.

Born on 25 December 1944, in Koton Karfe, Kogi State, General Chris Alli commenced his illustrious journey in the NA on 20 October 1967 , as a member of the Emergency Short Service Combatant Course.
Throughout his distinguished career, General Alli served diligently in multiple roles, encompassing Staff, Instructional, and Command appointments. He notably held the position of Military Administrator of Plateau State at one juncture.
The COAS, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, saluting the impeccable life of Gen Chris Alli (rtd), expressed admiration for his passion and devotion to duty. Describing his lifetime as characterised by service to humanity and a distinguished career in the NA, Gen Lagbaja extended condolences on behalf of officers and soldiers of the NA to the bereaved family. The COAS remarked that “He is a senior officer and his absence would be keenly felt by all who knew and loved him. His life of dedication to service and humanity is one we all must emulate.”
The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, represented by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, eulogised the selfless and sacrificial life of General Alli. The Defence Minister underscored the significant impact the former COAS had on the professionalism and repositioning of the NA, making it a force to be reckoned with regionally and globally.
In his remarks, the Defence Minister highlighted General Alli’s legacy of delectable character, patriotism, and dedicated service to the nation. “I urge all personnel of the Armed Forces to emulate the values epitomised by this late officer, as we pursue national peace, security, development, and unity.”
A Funeral Mass in memoriam of the deceased senior officer was conducted earlier at Saint Joseph Military Catholic Church, Mambilla Barracks, Abuja. Dignitaries in attendance included Former Head of State General Abdusalam Abubakar, National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Governor of Kogi State Yahaya Bello, former Chiefs of Defence and Army Staff, traditional leaders, and numerous senior officers, both serving and retired.
