COAS Unveils New Facilities for Soldiers’ Welfare, Safety
Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has inaugurated vital additions to the Bonny Cantonment. This includes a state-of-the-art Fire Station and a block of accommodations specifically designed for soldiers of the rank of Corporal and below at the 174 Battalion, Odogunyan Barracks, Ikorodu, Lagos state.
In a statement by the Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, General Lagbaja emphasized that the Fire Station’s establishment is crucial for safeguarding lives and property within the Cantonment. Additionally, it will serve as a valuable resource for emergency response agencies.
The COAS underscored that the housing project was undertaken with the well-being of troops and their families in mind. The commissioned 30 blocks of flats are a testament to this commitment.
Further enhancing the living conditions for soldiers, three Corporal Below Quarters have been extensively renovated and remodelled in the barracks.

The commissioning of these projects was met with enthusiastic approval from soldiers and their families, who cheered in gratitude.
During his address to the 81 Division troops, General Lagbaja emphasized the importance of adhering to the laws of Lagos State, urging them to remain steadfast in their fight against insecurity within their designated areas of responsibility.
Major General Mohammed Usman, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 81 Division, conveyed his gratitude for the COAS’s unwavering support. He assured General Lagbaja of the Division’s dedication to fulfilling the Nigerian Army’s mission and aligning with the COAS’s Command Philosophy.
The COAS, in turn, reiterated his commitment to the troops’ welfare and that of their families under his administration.
