General Lagbaja, while ordering an immediate reinforcement of measures to bolster military operations, urged commanders to develop comprehensive plans for decisively addressing adversaries within their Areas of responsibilities. He emphasised the importance of exercising restraint when dealing with law-abiding citizens, underscoring the constitutional duty of the NA to protect them.
In alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive, General Lagbaja urged all commanders to optimise their resources for the nation’s security. He highlighted that the conference provided a platform for reviewing past achievements, assessing current challenges, and strategising for the future in the broader context of national security.
The COAS stressed the significance of the conference theme, “Personnel Motivation for Effective Operational Performance in a Joint Environment.” He indicated that the deliberations addressed issues such as troops’ morale, the physical and conceptual components of NA fighting power, and underscored the importance of a whole-of-society approach in mitigating security challenges.
Acknowledging the enormity of the military’s task, General Lagbaja emphasised the necessity of improving communication channels with other security agencies engaged in internal security operations. “The goal is to create a secure environment that fosters good governance and economic prosperity for Nigerians,” He stated.
In adherence to the COAS Command Philosophy’s “sound administration” pillar, General Lagbaja presented cheques to officers and soldiers wounded in combat through the Group Personnel Accident Insurance Scheme, which caters to their medical bills.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the NA, General Lagbaja thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support, assuring continued loyalty and commitment to the defense of democracy and upholding the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
