The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja has directed troops of the 82 Division, Nigerian Army, and Joint Task Force South East Operation UDOKA to remain loyal and committed to their constitutional responsibilities.
This charge, given during his operational visit to the Headquarters 82 Division Nigerian Army on Tuesday, emphasised the importance of safeguarding the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and peaceful coexistence of the nation, as outlined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Addressing the troops, COAS Lagbaja praised their resilience and sacrifices while cautioning against the negative influence of social media. “I urge you not to expose yourselves to false and harmful information that could lead to misguided decisions or illegalities,” he said, emphasising the Nigerian Army’s zero tolerance for indiscipline. He highlighted the discipline and noble values inherent in the profession.
The Army Chief acknowledged commendable interventions by the Federal Government in troops’ welfare, including settling the backlog of unpaid Group Life Assurance since 2011 and initiating the payment of troops’ Accident Insurance. He stressed the need for troops to reciprocate these welfare efforts by remaining loyal, disciplined, and enhancing their operational effectiveness against security challenges.
