Damaturu Water Project: Yobe govt. approves N20m for pipes reticulation
By Bala Dauda, Damaturu
The Yobe State government has approved the sum of N20 million for the completion of the water pipes reticulation system in communities along Maiduguri-Damaturu road in the metropolis.
Alhaji Abdullahi Abba, Permanent Secretary, state Ministry of Water Resources, stated this in an interview in Damaturu.
Our correspondent reports that the Damaturu Water Project, which comprises three well-fields in Sunsumma, Nayinawa and Malammatari, is a Federal Government-funded project awarded in 2021.
Although the Sunsumma component of the project is completed, it has not been inaugurated.
Consequently, Abba said, the ministry wrote the Federal Ministry of Water Resources ( FMWR) requesting that the facility be put to use to meet the water demands of people in the area.
He said the FMWR approved the request and awarded a separate contract to Jidadu Ventures Nig. Ltd. for pipe reticulation in the area.
The permanent secretary said the state government on its part approved the release of N20 million to “supplement” the linking of the pipes to communities and estates in the area.
Abba assured that barring any eventualities, residents along the highway will start enjoying a steady water supply by next week.
On the Malammatari and Nayinawa well fields, he said they are at 70 to 80 per cent completion level.
The permanent secretary said if everything goes according to plan, the two stations would be completed in June.
