Dangote Cement Strengthens CSR Initiatives for Gboko Communities
Dangote Cement Plc in Gboko, Benue State, has expanded its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts for local communities, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable development.
The company unveiled a series of community-focused initiatives as part of its observance of Global Sustainability Week.
The company’s Branding and Corporate Communications Department announced the scaled-up interventions, emphasizing that Dangote Cement aims to mitigate the impact of its operations while actively contributing to sustainable growth.
“Dangote Cement Plc, Gboko is committed to addressing the impact of its activities and contributing to sustainable development through projects and initiatives that promote safe, inclusive, and sustainable communities,” the statement said.
The initiatives go beyond the annual observance, as Dangote’s Sustainability Champions serve as role models for students.
The company has established environment clubs in local schools to celebrate World Environment Day, offering educational programs that raise awareness about environmental conservation.
Women’s empowerment remains a key priority in Dangote Cement’s CSR agenda, with targeted programs aimed at boosting economic opportunities for women in the Gboko area.
Additionally, the company actively engages with students, providing mentorship through school programs that promote sustainable practices.
The expanded initiatives were officially launched on Monday by the Plant Director, Engr. Louis K.
Raj, who praised Dangote Cement’s longstanding tradition of corporate responsibility.
“Dangote Cement is one of the most socially responsible companies in Nigeria,” he said, highlighting the company’s ongoing efforts to uplift its host communities.
The observance of this year’s Global Sustainability Week saw the implementation of various programs across Gboko, including training in liquid soap and Vaseline production, mentorship sessions in schools, medical outreach, and donations to local orphanages.
These activities aimed to provide essential skills, promote health, and support vulnerable groups within the community.
Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, encouraged other businesses to adopt energy-efficient practices as the world faces an escalating climate crisis.
“Businesses must play a role in addressing climate change through energy efficiency and sustainability,” he said.
Dr. Igazeuma Okoroba, Head of Sustainability at Dangote Cement, reiterated the company’s commitment to sustainable practices.
“This year’s Sustainability Week gives us another opportunity to demonstrate our love for humanity by sharing our sustainability message and supporting the residents of our host communities,” she stated.
