The pact was formalised at a ceremony in Okpokwu Local Government Area, where representatives from Dangote Coal, government officials, and traditional leaders gathered to celebrate the new partnership. The CDA outlines the company’s commitment to executing projects that will uplift education, improve road networks, and boost health and water infrastructure within the host communities.
Speaking at the event, Nuhu Elujah, who represented Dangote Coal Mines Limited, described the agreement as a “breakthrough in our effort to touch lives.” He emphasised that the document would serve as a blueprint for the company’s engagement with the Abache community and beyond.
“Today, we have a document to guide us with regard to the Abache Community. The communities will see tangible developments in education, roads, healthcare, and water infrastructure. It is a new era for peace and development,” Elujah stated.
The Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, represented by Ms. Bimbo Adams, also lauded the initiative, noting that the CDA marks a “major milestone” in ensuring that host communities benefit directly from natural resource exploitation. At the state level, Mrs. Adijetu Usman reiterated the government’s support for initiatives that promote sustainable community development.
Local leaders expressed optimism about the partnership. Chief Emmanuel Ikom, the Ward Head of Ugbokolo, praised Dangote Coal for its ongoing projects in all three host communities within the local government area. He encouraged the company to sustain its development momentum.
“We are grateful for the numerous interventions and social programmes already implemented by Dangote Coal Mines Limited. We urge the company to maintain this positive stride as it brings development closer to our people,” Chief Ikom said.
Representing the Abache community, Mr. Sunday Onoko Aluh expressed appreciation to the company for making the CDA a reality. He pledged that the community would ensure a peaceful and cooperative relationship with the company’s management to accelerate development.
Traditional rulers present at the event echoed similar sentiments, describing the agreement as a “win-win” for all parties involved. They highlighted the importance of mutual understanding and collaboration in achieving lasting progress.
