DCCN condemns Massacre in Plateau, urges gov’t to bring perpetrators to book

The Da’awah Coordination Council of Nigeria (DCCN) has condemned what it described as “the unprovoked, fiendish, barbaric and studiously orchestrated massacre of innocent Muslim travellers in Jos by some Christian youths on Saturday the 14th of August, 2021.”
In a statement signed by Secretary-General of DCCN, Engr. Ahmad M. Y. Jumba, the group further described the incident as an act of cruel barbarism by a group of depraved youths whose actions are incentivized by an irresponsible elders’ group and irresponsive government.

“This is a limpid act of terrorism perpetrated by a terrorist group masquerading as youths of irigwe. The Plateau state government’s claim that it was a mistaken identity as mentioned by Ondo State Government in its press release, is both laughable and irresponsible.
“It is sad that the governor of Ondo State, the state where the thirty-three slaughtered victims came from, is quick to acquiesce to the fact that it was a mistaken identity. Given the fact that the same governor is the first to give the quit notice from the south, which other southern States have adopted, to those he said were mistaken for the slaughtered victims, you can then appreciate how deep the profiling and deliberate targeting of the Muslims of this country is, regardless of where they come from.
“DCCN observes that this circle of violence and heinous killings have taken place in the State several times, yet no single person has been brought to justice or punished. It seems that some people in this country are second class citizens who can be dealt with anyhow.”
The group called on leaders at all levels to remember that the cardinal principle of government is the protection of life and that they are going to account for every single life unjustly taken, hence all those involved in the last Saturday slaughter must be fished out and dealt with in accordance with the laws of the land.
While commiserating with families of the victims, the group called on all peace-loving Nigerians to remain calm and wait for the Government to fish out and punish all the people that were involved in the barbaric act.
