The Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), OFR, on Wednesday commissioned a newly acquired fleet of armoured vehicles and security equipment procured by the Sokoto State Government, describing the initiative as a major boost to Nigeria’s internal security architecture.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony in Sokoto, the Defence Minister commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for his commitment to strengthening security and protecting lives and property across the state.

General Musa said the state’s investment in modern security assets demonstrates the understanding that peace and security remain the foundation for sustainable development and economic growth.

He noted that under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the Federal Government remains committed to restoring peace, protecting citizens and creating an enabling environment for national prosperity.

The Minister stressed that addressing contemporary security challenges requires stronger collaboration among the Federal Government, state governments, local authorities and host communities.

According to him, the newly acquired armoured vehicles and other security equipment will significantly enhance the operational effectiveness of security agencies by improving force protection, mobility and rapid response capabilities.

“Modern equipment alone cannot guarantee success. It must be complemented by professionalism, discipline and effective inter-agency collaboration. We commend the Sokoto State Government for supporting conventional military operations through community-based intelligence initiatives, as effective security depends on public trust and timely information,” he said.

General Musa urged security personnel to deploy the equipment responsibly and professionally, emphasising the need for strict adherence to the rule of law while carrying out their constitutional responsibilities.

He charged the personnel to justify the huge public investment by demonstrating integrity, discipline and commitment in the fight against criminal elements.

The Defence Minister reaffirmed the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s determination to leverage advanced technology, improved operational capabilities and enhanced personnel welfare to build a safer and more secure nation where citizens can live and pursue their livelihoods without fear.

The commissioning forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security operations and improve the capacity of security agencies to respond effectively to emerging threats across Sokoto State and the wider North-West region.
