Disu Assumes Office as 23rd Indigenous Inspector-General of Police
The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Ridwan Disu, psc, has formally assumed duty as the 23rd indigenous Inspector-General of Police, taking over the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force.

He succeeds Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM (Rtd), who served as the 22nd indigenous Inspector-General of Police from June 19, 2023 to February 24, 2026. The Force expressed appreciation to the immediate past IGP for what it described as his invaluable contributions to the growth, modernization, and strengthening of the institution
Born on April 13, 1966, Disu hails from Lagos Island Local Government Area of Lagos State. He brings to the office decades of operational, investigative, intelligence, and administrative experience. He joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on May 18, 1992, and has since served in several strategic capacities across the country.
Until his appointment, he was Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos. Over the years, he has held key positions including AIG, Special Protection Unit, Force Headquarters Abuja; Commissioner of Police, FCT Police Command; Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Police Command; CP, Administration and Intelligence at the Force Intelligence Bureau; Deputy Commissioner of Police, Head of Intelligence Response Team; and Commander of the Rapid Response Squad, Lagos, from 2015 to 2021.
His career trajectory also includes service as Assistant Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department, Rivers State; Officer in Charge, Anti-Kidnapping in Rivers State; Officer in Charge, Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Ondo and Oyo States; Divisional Police Officer in Ondo State; Officer in Charge, Training at the Nigeria Police Peace-Keeping Department; Directing Staff at the Nigerian Police Academy, Kano; Aide-de-Camp to a former Governor of Lagos State; and Officer in Charge, Anti-Fraud, State Criminal Investigation Department, Katsina.
Academically, the new IGP holds an MSc in Entrepreneurship from the National Open University of Nigeria (2023); MSc in Criminology, Security and Legal Psychology from Lagos State University (2022); Advanced Diploma in Forensic Investigation and Criminal Intelligence from the University of Lagos (2019); MSc in Public Administration from Adekunle Ajasin University (2010); Postgraduate Diploma in International Relations and Strategic Studies from Lagos State University (2000); and a B.A. in English (Education) from Lagos State University (1990).
He is a member of several professional bodies, including the International Academy of Forensics, the National Association of Investigative Specialists (USA), the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
In 2005, Disu successfully led the first-ever Nigerian Police contingent to the African Union Mission in Sudan (AMIS), contributing to peacekeeping efforts in Darfur. Beyond policing, he has distinguished himself in sports, serving as National Chairman of the Nigeria Police Judo Association and earning a third-degree black belt in Judo, including a silver medal at the 2022 US Open Judo Championships.
In his remarks, the new Acting Inspector-General reassured officers, stakeholders, and the public of his commitment to consolidating ongoing reforms, strengthening internal security, deepening community partnerships, and advancing the Force’s mandate of protecting lives and property in line with global best practices.
The Nigeria Police Force called for continued public support and cooperation as the new leadership works to enhance professionalism, discipline, and service delivery nationwide.
