Popular Nigerian singer and DJ, Florence Otedola, better known as DJ Cuppy, has made history as the first British-Nigerian to host an opening session at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The daughter of billionaire Femi Otedola and founder of the Cuppy Foundation led the session titled “The Summit of the Future – Youth Action Day” over the weekend, marking a major milestone in her career.
In an Instagram post, DJ Cuppy expressed excitement about the experience, sharing that while she has previously performed as a DJ at the UNGA, this was her first time hosting an opening session.
“It is so wonderful to be here. It is actually my second time DJing at the United Nations, so I must be doing something right,” she wrote.
Reflecting on her journey, she added, “I would not be standing here if not for my education… I may not seem that cool right now to some of the youth delegates, but I’ve made some pretty lady moves in my career. I’ve interned for Jay-Z, been on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list twice, and filmed MTV Cribs, but the coolest thing I’ve done by far is speaking to all of you today.”
DJ Cuppy also emphasized her passion for education, revealing that at age 30, she has earned three university degrees, including one from New York University (NYU). She hinted at completing her PhD thesis, saying, “I value education so much that at 30, I have three university degrees… and let’s just say I might have completed my thesis.”
