Scheduled from April 8 to 12 in Houston, Texas, USA, this prestigious event marks a significant partnership milestone between WABMA and the university.

Dr. Okere’s invitation to lead an interactive workshop on Fact Checking & Detecting Misinformation underscores the importance of combating misinformation in today’s digital landscape. Reflecting on this opportunity, Dr. Okere stated, “We are excited to collaborate with Texas Southern University’s School of Communication in advancing media literacy. Together we can make a meaningful impact by enriching the learning experiences of students and professionals with industry-relevant knowledge.”

The partnership between WABMA and TSU began in 2023 when Prof. Chris Ulasi, Dean of TSU’s School of Communication, visited Nigeria as WABMA’s lead instructor in the Political Journalism Project (PRP), sponsored by the United States Consulate, to train journalists on political reporting ahead of Nigeria’s 2023 general elections.

Prof. Ulasi expressed enthusiasm about expanding educational opportunities in journalism and communication through collaboration with WABMA. He emphasised the Communication Week as a platform for showcasing talent and fostering interaction between students and industry professionals to explore innovations and trends in communication.

Themed “Amplifying Diverse Voices in Media and Communication,” the conference will address topics with cultural, political, economic, and social significance, exposing participants to various communication dynamics.

Dr. Okere, an alumnus of Texas Southern University with a Ph.D. in Mass Communication and extensive experience in media across radio, TV, print, and digital platforms, brings a wealth of expertise to the event. His workshop on fact-checking and misinformation promises to equip attendees with practical skills crucial for navigating today’s media landscape.

The partnership between WABMA and Texas Southern University exemplifies a shared commitment to enhancing education and promoting excellence in media and communication.
