Drama as NIPOST staff reject new CEO, shut down head office

In an act of protest against Tola Odeyemi’s nomination as Chief Executive Officer/Postmaster-General, employees of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) have closed down the organization’s headquarters in Abuja.

Last week, President Bola Tinubu altered the leadership of several communication organizations, including NIPOST, according to a statement from his spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale.

However, there were claims that Adeyemi Adepoju, the fired postmaster-general, had been reinstated shortly after the news of Odeyemi’s appointment surfaced.

Adepoju was seen in a popular video addressing some employees who said Tinubu had reinstated him.

Adepoju earlier alleged that President Bola Ahmed had reappointed him as Postmaster General of the Federation and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) in a statement released by NIPOST on Friday.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned Rt. Honourable Adeyemi Sunday Adepoju as the Postmaster General of the Federation and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), citing Adepoju’s sterling leadership and excellent performance during his stay in office as the reason for his reinstatement”, a statement from NIPOST reads.

However, on Monday, the protesting employees forbade the newly appointed NIPOST CEO from entering, claiming that her hiring went against their wishes.
