Drama in House of Representatives as Lawmakers Reject Gagdi’s Motion to Summon Tinubu Over Insecurity, Budget Implementation

The House of Representatives witnessed a heated session on Wednesday as lawmakers rejected a motion sponsored by Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency of Plateau State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), seeking to summon President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other key government officials over the country’s security situation and the implementation of the 2026 budget.

The motion triggered intense debate on the floor of the Green Chamber, with several lawmakers strongly opposing the proposal.

In the course of the deliberations, tempers flared as some members repeatedly shouted “Sit down!” and “Shut up!” while Hon. Gagdi attempted to advance his argument, creating a tense and dramatic atmosphere during the plenary.

The disagreement briefly disrupted proceedings before the Speaker restored order.

Following extensive deliberations, the House declined to adopt the motion, effectively rejecting the proposal to invite President Tinubu and other senior government officials to appear before lawmakers on issues relating to insecurity and budget implementation.

The development underscored differing opinions among members of the House on the appropriate legislative approach to addressing Nigeria’s security challenges and ensuring accountability in the execution of government programmes.

Normal legislative business later resumed after order was restored in the chamber.
