DSS Sets the Record Straight: No Recent Arrests of CBN Officials
Responding to circulating speculation and social media rumuors, the Department of State Services (DSS) has officially refuted claims of any arrests involving current or former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) officials within the last 48 hours.
This was conveyed in a statement released on Thursday via Twitter, the DSS insisted those reports are “inaccurate and misleading.”
The statement emphatically declares, “The DSS wishes to categorically state that we have not apprehended any CBN official, past or present, in the past 48 hours or at any time recently,” urging the public to dismiss such reports and depend on official communication channels for accurate information, the DSS seeks to dispel any misinformation surrounding recent events.
The clarification comes at a time of increased scrutiny on the CBN, particularly in light of the ongoing investigation into the activities of former Governor Godwin Emefiele.
Notably, Emefiele was suspended in June 2023 and subsequently arrested by the DSS on suspicions of terrorism financing. Despite his release on bail, ongoing investigations have kept the spotlight on the central bank.
While acknowledging their involvement in CBN-related investigations, the DSS underscores its commitment to observing due process and respecting the rights of individuals under scrutiny.
The statement reaffirms the agency’s dedication to conducting its operations with “professionalism and transparency.”
In the aftermath of this clarification, a renewed call for responsible news reporting and the verification of information before dissemination through online channels is anticipated.
The public is urged to exercise caution regarding unconfirmed reports and to seek updates from credible sources amid this evolving situation.
