The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan, are gearing up for a touching journey to Nigeria, scheduled to commence today.

Their visit, orchestrated by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, promises to be a poignant affair aimed at bolstering the spirits of wounded soldiers and extending support to local NGOs.

In a briefing held in Abuja on Thursday, AVM Abidemi Marquis, the Director of Sports and Chairman of the Organising Committee, unveiled the itinerary of the royal couple’s visit.

Prince Harry, renowned for founding the Invictus Games, will lead the charge alongside his wife, Meghan, in a mission to visit wounded soldiers at the Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna on Saturday.

Marquis elaborated further, detailing the couple’s plans to engage with soldiers and their families in Abuja, as well as participate in a novelty volleyball match, symbolizing camaraderie and resilience.

“The visit’s highlight will extend to Lagos on Sunday, where the duo will throw their support behind a local NGO before bidding farewell to Nigeria on Monday.

He expressing the significance of the visit, Marquis emphasized its role in aiding the recovery efforts of wounded soldiers, noting the positive impact it has had on their mental and emotional well-being.

He underscored the Invictus engagement as a beacon of hope, fostering personal growth, and bolstering self-esteem among soldiers and their families.

Moreover, Marquis highlighted Nigeria’s aspirations to join the Invictus community fully, hinting at future prospects of hosting an Invictus Games on Nigerian soil.

He lauded the Nigerian Armed Forces’ commitment to constructing a cutting-edge facility for managing post-traumatic stress syndrome among wounded and injured soldiers, a testament to the nation’s dedication to its servicemen and women.

As the anticipation builds for the royal visit, Saturday’s exhibition of a novelty volleyball match at the Armed Forces Officers Mess stands out as a poignant moment of solidarity, showcasing the unwavering bond between the CDS team and Prince Harry’s delegation.

The visit not only signifies a diplomatic milestone but also embodies a profound gesture of solidarity, underscoring the universal values of resilience, compassion, and support for those who have sacrificed for their nation.
